Maker's Mark®
This one changed the way we think of bourbon, all because one man changed the way he thought about making it. Bill Samuels, Sr., simply wanted a whisky he would enjoy drinking. Never bitter or sharp, Maker's Mark® is made with soft red winter wheat, instead of the usual rye, for a one-of-a-kind, full-flavored bourbon that's easy to drink. To ensure consistency, we rotate every barrel by hand and age our bourbon to taste, not time. Each and every bottle of Maker's® is still hand-dipped in our signature red wax at our distillery in Loretto, Ky., just like Bill, Sr., would have wanted.

Maker's Mark®
Created by Bill Samuels, Sr. to be a bourbon that he would enjoy drinking himself, Maker’s Mark® is smooth and approachable with an easy finish – a true contrast to hot, harsh whiskies that “blow your ears off,” and a downright revolutionary idea at the time. Maker’s Mark® is made slowly in small batches, in our National Historic Landmark distillery in Loretto, Kentucky. While it makes any cocktail better, a lot of folks still prefer it on its own, or over ice with a splash of water.
Bill Samuels tested quite a few cereals and developed the final formula in 1951 using local corn, winter wheat and malt at a rate of 70 percent + malt (14%) + winter wheat (16%).
The first Makers Mark, named after Samuels' wife, Marge Samuels, who loved to collect traditional English wax prints,They also love the wax-sealed cognac, so they named it Makers Mark and used it as a sealing package.
The unique hand-made wax seal and wine-making formula still represent the high quality bourbon whiskey.
