Here we have the super 25 year old single malt Scotch whisky from the Talisker distillery. The Skye distillery have created a super balance of the distillery's seaside, salt and pepper character against elegant oak and delicate fruity notes. This single malt release was predominantly matured in American oak hogsheads and European oak refill casks. A masterclass in ageing with maritime air.

Tasting Notes

Appearance

Warm Gold.

Nose

Seaweed and old oranges, with smoke in the distance and some chalk. Surprisingly fruity and juicy.

Body

Medium

Palate

Gentle start, with some acidity and saltiness that immediately builds in intensity. Extraordinary flavour development. Slow and sweet, then kicks in peppery and hot with balancing bitterness, salt and smoke.

Finish

Long, slightly bitter and very drying with a little smokiness.

Talisker Distillery

Talisker Distillery is well known as one of the Classic Malts and for many years it was the only distillery on the Isle of Skye, but it is now joined by Torabhaig Distilley in the south of the island. There is also a distillery of Raasay, which is a small island accessible by car ferry from Skye. The name Talisker derives from a Norse word that means "sloping rock", but the distillery is actually in a village called Carbost and not in Talisker, which is a place that lies further west along the same road that the distillery stands on.
