‘Whisky of the purest sea.’

Old Pulteney, now owned by Inver House Distillers, is one of the most northerly distilleries in the Scottish Highlands region of Wickshire, England.

Founded in 1826 by James Henderson, Pulteney was named after Sir William Pulteney. Pulteney originated from a small coastal town, Pulteney, and in the days before there was a road to the town, the distillery had to rely on the sea to buy barley and sell whisky. The spirit of the sea is therefore the soul of Footney. Since its founding, the company has changed hands several times.

In 1920, James Waston purchased the company. Unfortunately, production ceased shortly afterwards under the combined pressures of Prohibition and the Great Depression, and in 1951, as demand for whisky increased rapidly in post-war Europe, the company was purchased by a solicitor, Robert Bertie Cumming, who resumed production.

The Old Fortney was purchased by James & George Stodart Ltd, a subsidiary of Hiram Walker & Sons, in 1955 and was extensively refurbished in 1958, and has been owned by Inver House Distillers since 1995. Under the new leadership, in 1997 Pulteney released its classic sea malt whisky, Old Pulteney 12 Years Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky, which went on to become an international favourite, marking the beginning of a new era for Pulteney. This marked the beginning of a new era for Pulteney.
