Description
Château Duclos Armagnac is produced by the Armagnac Castarede family, the oldest French Armagnac estate, founded in 1832 and the first legally registered Armagnac merchant company in the Armagnac region.
The estate has a rich collection, almost a museum of Armagnac, with casks of single vintage Armagnacs, distilled since 1893, which have been loved and collected by many heads of state throughout history.
Over the years, the Castarede family has not only passed on the skills of Armagnac making, but has also preserved this ancient tradition, art and heritage.
The oldest brand of the house is Nismes Delclou, a historic combination of the family name Nismes, famous for its contribution to the French waterways, and its in-laws' family name Delclou, for their Armagnacs.
The Castarede family also owns the Château de Maniban, which was built in the 17th century, and in its early years was mainly used to supply Armagnac to Louis XV, the King of France at that time. The Château de Maniban is surrounded by vineyards of three varieties: Ugni blanc, Colombard, Folle blanche. Blanche.
Unlike Cognac, which is distilled twice, Armagnac is distilled in a single continuous distillation. Experts believe that Armagnac is more floral and fruity than Cognac, thanks to the unique Armagnac single-stage distillation.
The most important feature is that throughout the process, the distilled alcohol is in full contact with the white spirit before distillation, which is one of the key reasons why Armagnac is more floral and fruity than Cognac.
Aged oak barrels soften the flavour of Armagnac, while adding complexity and notes of vanilla and spice.
Compared to cognacs, Armagnacs are more aromatic and fuller bodied, especially young Armagnacs which are fuller bodied than comparatively mature cognacs.
The most typical aromas of Armagnac are floral and candied, and on the palate it tends to be bold and spicy, and more rustic than Cognac.
The fruity and floral aromas of Armagnac brandy are constantly changing, such as pear, plum, vanilla, hazelnut, walnut, etc. They are very clear, rounded in the mouth without irritation, and long-lasting.
