ABOUT THE ARTIST

FRANK QUITELY

Vincent Deighan was born in Glasgow in 1968 and loves to paint. His dream is to make this his career. After studying painting at Glasgow School of Art, he began to explore the world of comics and fiction. He carved out an impressive career in the Scottish comedy underground and adopted the pseudonym Frank Farely.

Thirty years on from the start of his creative journey, Quitely has become synonymous with first-rate visual storytelling, with a reputation in the world of illustration and word-of-mouth drawings that are awe-inspiring in their own right.

A UNIQUE

COLLABORATION

Like its two predecessors, No Corners to Hide and The Changeling, Lovers Transformed is inspired by a mythological tale from the Isle of Islay in Scotland:

The daughter of a Pictish king from the East fell in love with a captured Celtic warrior from the West. Seeking union, the entangled lovers traveled from the Scottish mainland to the warrior's home on the island of Islay.

When a thunderous storm sinks their ship, the young lovers cling to each other, only to be swallowed by the sea. In the eerie silence of the following day, the wreckage of the boat was found on the rocky shores of Islay. But there was no sign of the lovers, only a pair of white seagulls soaring high in the sky, heading neither east nor west, as if hovering between the two.

TASTING NOTES

Color: Russet

Nose: Atlantic sea salt, toffee, tanned leather and stewed apples.

Taste: Golden maple syrup, dark chocolate, licorice root and tannin oak.

Finish: Peaty and full-bodied with a long honeyed sweetness

Ageing: 20 years in American oak barrels followed by three years in Pedro Ximenez and Oloroso sherry casks
