Talisker Distillery’s first-ever release of a 45-Year-Old Single Malt Scotch whisky, unearths new, resilient depths of the Talisker character. Revealing unexplored richness, complexity and a unique untamed flavour which is attributed to the whisky travelling deeper into the casks to obtain spicier and sweeter aromas from the American Oak ex-Bourbon barrels.
Twelve of the Talisker distillery heavily charred American Oak casks were taken on a glacial voyage into the beautiful frozen lands of Canada’s ice fields. A specialist cooper removed the ends of the casks and they were left exposed to sub-zero temperatures and biting Arctic winds for 96 hours. This allowed the extreme cold to fracture the wood which in turn increased the surface area of the casks that the whisky was able to interact with during the finishing period in Scotland.
This is the third year of Talisker working with Parley to raise awareness of the importance of marine ecosystems and support their preservation globally, and a portion of the funds from Talisker Glacial Edge 45-Year-Old will be donated to support this cause. It is also the last in the series of long-aged Talisker single malts bottled in celebration of wild whisky making.
Tasting Note~ Nose: Overall, it's mellow and peppery, with a fruity top note of crushed apple and a silky, fragrant touch of wax. Notes of canvas and varnished wood combine with marine undertones of sea-air and warm sand, all whirling over a somewhat smoky and waxy foundation underneath these smells. Palate: A sweet, rich intensity is introduced with a fresh, balanced blast of ocean salt spray after a smooth texture and a bright, juicy start. Before Talisker's peppery warmth envelops the tongue, the sensation becomes mildly drying. Overall, it's mesmerizing, with a smooth, rich flavor that's great to sip neat. Finish: Long and lingering, with a sweet chili-pepper spiciness that pervades the entire tongue.

Talisker Distillery
Talisker Distillery is well known as one of the Classic Malts and for many years it was the only distillery on the Isle of Skye, but it is now joined by Torabhaig Distilley in the south of the island. There is also a distillery of Raasay, which is a small island accessible by car ferry from Skye. The name Talisker derives from a Norse word that means "sloping rock", but the distillery is actually in a village called Carbost and not in Talisker, which is a place that lies further west along the same road that the distillery stands on.
